Main Street Project Update, June 13, 2025

Construction Update

Water main work will continue for a few more weeks along Main St. between S. Winooski and Church. Crews will begin switching water services from the temporary line to the new permanent water main in the upcoming weeks.

Sidewalk work will continue along portions of Main St. between Pine and Church. Access to all businesses will be maintained.

Paving of the intermediate course of asphalt between Pine and Church is anticipated to occur within the next few weeks.

Excavation for tree cell test pits, light pole foundations, and concrete sidewalk continues along Main St.

Where is Construction Occurring?

Traffic patterns for next week, 6/16-6/20:

  • Main/S. Winooski: Fully closed to vehicles.
  • Main: S. Winooski to Church: Fully closed to vehicles.
  • Main/Church: Fully closed to vehicles.
  • Main Church to St. Paul: Open to local traffic.
  • Main/St. Paul: Open to vehicle traffic.
  • Main: St. Paul to Pine: Open to local traffic.
    While business access remains, some pedestrian detours may be in place along sidewalks on this block of Main St. 
  • Main/Pine: Open to vehicle traffic

Timeframes for closures are subject to change. Updates will be provided as frequently as possible.

FREE 2 Hours at the Downtown Garage Monday – Saturday

FREE parking at meters & City garages on Sundays

Courthouse Plaza Garage, S. Winooski Ave entrance, city rates ($2.00/hr)

Main/Winooski lot (access via S Winooski) open

Main/Winooski lot (access via Main St) open

On street parking is available except where a meter bag or
‘No Parking’ sign is present.

CHAMPLAIN PARKWAY TRAFFIC HIGHLIGHTS: 

Monday, 6/16 through Friday, 6/20:

  • Main/Pine Intersection: Open to vehicular traffic. Potential full vehicle closure mid-to-late week for one or two days.
  • Pine Street – Main St. to Maple St: Local traffic only, on-street parking restrictions, possible traffic delays and short stoppages.
  • King/Pine Intersection: Fully closed to vehicles on Monday, June 16 for fine-grading. Lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic throughout the week.
  • Maple/Pine Intersection: Lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic.
  • Pine Street – Maple St. to Kilburn St: Lane shifts, on-street parking restrictions, and short temporary driveway disruptions on Tuesday, June 17.
  • Pine/Howard Intersection: Potential for lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic.

Please note, pedestrian travel ways within the project limits will remain gravel; use caution.
