Main Street Project Update, May 23, 2025

Construction Update
Water main work will continue for a few more weeks along Main St. between S. Winooski and Church.
Roadway subbase and base course paving has been completed along Main St from Pine to St. Paul and St. Paul to the Church/Main intersection. Work in both intersections remains.
Curb work will begin the week of 5/27 along Main St. between Pine and Church. Work will be done only one block at a time.

Where is Construction Occurring?
REMINDER: The M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon comes to Burlington this Sunday, May 25th. Important city-wide travel information, including road closures, travel delays, and parking bans, can be found here. Traffic patterns for this weekend, 5/23-5/26:
- Main: Church to S. Winooski: Fully closed to vehicle traffic.
- Main/S. Winooski Intersection: Open to North and South vehicle traffic Closure on the eastern leg.
- Main/Church Intersection: Closed to vehicular traffic. Fully open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Unpaved surface conditions exist.
- Main/St. Paul Intersection: Fully open to vehicle traffic by end of day today.
- Main/Pine Intersection: Closed to vehicular traffic. Fully open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Traffic patterns for next week, 5/27-6/1:
- Main/S. Winooski: Open to North/South vehicle traffic. Closure on the eastern leg.
- Main/Church: Fully closed to vehicles.
- Main/St. Paul: Fully open to vehicle traffic.
- Main: Pine to St. Paul: Open to local traffic only.
- Main/Pine: Fully closed to vehicle traffic. Anticipated to fully reopen to vehicle traffic by mid-week.
Timeframes for closures are subject to change. Updates will be provided as frequently as possible.

Where can I park?
Available Lots/Garages:
- FREE 2 Hours at the Downtown Garage
Monday – Saturday - FREE parking at meters & City garages on Sundays
- Courthouse Plaza Garage, S. Winooski Ave entrance, city rates ($2.00/hr)
- Main/Winooski lot (access via S Winooski) open
- Main/Winooski lot (access via Main St) open today – Monday 5/26. This portion will then close for the week but is anticipated to reopen by Friday 5/30.
On street parking is available except where a meter bag or
‘No Parking’ sign is present.

CHAMPLAIN PARKWAY TRAFFIC HIGHLIGHTS:
Friday, 5/23 – Monday, 5/26:
Main/Pine Intersection: During the Vermont City Marathon, the intersection will be fully open to participants and spectators. The intersection will be fully closed to vehicular traffic outside of the Marathon’s hours of operation. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the weekend.
Pine St – Main to King: Will remain accessible to vehicles via King St only outside of the Marathon’s hours of operation. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the weekend.
Pine St – King to Maple: Fully open to pedestrian and vehicular travel throughout the weekend.
Tuesday, 5/27 – Friday, 5/30:
Main/Pine Intersection: Closed to vehicles (24/7) through mid-week, when it will reopen to vehicular traffic.
Pine St: Main to King: Open to local traffic only. Accessible via King St only through mid-week.
King/Pine Intersection: Lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic at the intersection.
King St: Pine to St. Paul: Potential for lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic and parking restrictions.
Pine St: King to Maple: Lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic, parking restrictions, and short temporary driveway disruptions.
Howard/Pine Intersection: Potential for lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic.
